I read about the Louis Simpson Garden in Donald Olson’s The Pacific Northwest Garden Tour- The 60 Best Gardens to Visit in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. So Rhoda and I made this garden, located at Shore Acers State Park in Coos Bay, Oregon, our first stop.
We arrived on Sunday, May 2nd at 9:00 am. These five acres of formal gardens are a real treat. It has a Japanese-style lily pond and various flowers and evergreen shrubs that grow all year round. Most visitors to the park don’t know the garden exists, which is a total surprise to most. At 9:00 am, the grounds were so peaceful. Other than myself, there was only one other couple (and the birds) taking in all of nature’s best.
