Initially, I included Abbys, Missions, and Monasteries in my travel itinerary, but many remain closed due to the pandemic. I was thrilled when I learned the California Missions had re-opened. So on May 12th, Rhoda and I took the opportunity to visit the Old Santa Barbara Mission while visiting the area.
Home to Franciscan Friars and a living national historic landmark, the Old Santa Barabara Mission overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Its 15 acres include the Mission church, a historic cemetery, mausoleum, historic artwork and artifacts museum, and multiple gardens.
Because Old Mission Santa Barbara believes in “radical hospitality,” self-guided tours do not require reservations.
